Charting a course distinctly between traditional and contemporary figuration, Chris Sheridan’s oil paintings are an exploration of bold color, the figure in environment, movement, and mark making. Relying heavily on storytelling, his work has drawn inspiration from the folklore of many civilizations, Greek, Roman and Native American mythology, classic literature and anthropological accounts of the birth of religion, superstition, and magic and its effects on our modern society.

His work is often strewn with symbols and references to rituals that are now lost, but were once widely understood. The driving force behind his work is his almost insatiable need to better understand the human condition, the collective unconscious, and the travels of the soul. Most recently his work has centered on the transience of life, the transcendence of the soul, the psychological impact of the sky.

Chris is originally from Cape Cod, Massachusetts and now calls Seattle, Washington home. His lifelong commitment to learning and growing began with a Bachelor of Fine Art in Illustration from the Ringling College of Art and Design, followed by a Master’s of Fine Art in Painting at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. He is an award-winning artist who has been included in numerous publications including The Citrus Report, Newbrow: 50 Contemporary Artists, The Better Bombshell, and Miroir Magazine. He has shown extensively nationally and internationally, and recently returned from a month-long artist residency in Vienna, Austria.
